There is a Blog Niche for Everyone

So you think you might want to start a blog? Maybe you definitely want to start a blog but are still doing research to see if your “niche” will hold up for more than a couple of weeks. Maybe you already started and are now fumbling around trying to figure out what to write about next.

Try to relax. We got this!

Below I am going to give you a completely free list of blog niches with a bunch of sub-niche ideas that can tie into your main focus.

But first, let’s be real.

The love of writing is not enough. Mad tech or computer skills meh. Design and photo editing skills, great but nope. Copywriting and a great track record of sales, that’s nice. Social media and advertising guru, okay.

All these skills are ok and some are the premise of a great blogger. But very few of us will possess all of these skills in one body.

You know what makes for a great blogger? Determination, will, self-discipline, passion, and the drive to help others.

How to Choose Your Blog Niche

If you are in blogging only to make money, you’ll likely never make a penny. So when you reach the list of niches below, think in terms of how you could help others reach their goals or conquer their problems in that niche.

You can’t write what you don’t know. So write what you know or what you are learning or growing through. This way, people aka-your ideal audience will show up to read your material.

And don’t for two seconds think you have to come up with something “original”. There are tens of millions of blogs. The only thing original will be your voice and point of view, your character and spin on things

Before we get to the list let’s do a short interview if you will to assess your readiness?

Blog Basics

Have you considered relevant, short, and catchy blog names for your domain(blog) name? I bought mine at GoDaddy before I had chosen a host. If you go through my BlueHost affiliate link you can get a domain name for free!

Have you chosen a self-hosting provider? If you plan on making a dime from your blog self-hosting is the only way to go. I strongly recommend BlueHost because of their constant improvements and dedication to customer service. Their super great rates for the three-year package don’t hurt any either. If you are serious about starting an income three years should not scare you in the slightest. It’s called commitment. All the hosting companies offer multi-year deals for those ready to step up to the plate.

Link your hosting provider to WordPress.Org. This is the platform used by 93% of all money making blogs as of 2016. Haven’t found newer stats yet. Do not confuse this with wordpress.com. They are not the same. WordPress.Org comes with a whole slew of functionality and freedom that free-hosting does not. Did you know free hosts can:

  • Shut down your entire site at any time without notice to you because they own your content!
  • Limit the ways in which you can earn money from your site.
  • Drag down your search engine performance. Self-hosted websites get higher rankings.

I have an informative step-by-step tutorial post right here that you can hop over to if you’d like help getting your blog set up.

FYI: You will not be paying for hosting and wordpress.org. You will be paying for the host and connecting it to wordpress.org, which is free but doesn’t function without paid hosting. My total startup cost for my domain name and a 3-yr hosting package was $155.

The Blog Niche List

I also chose to get ConvertKit my third month of blogging. Wish I would have on day one. This is the platform I use to collect email addresses. If you have done your research you know how important this step is.

These are the people you will be building a community with. The people who will be most likely to buy or refer others to buy your products, and possibly the people you collaborate or do projects with! ConvertKit costs me $29/mo but since I have a business mentality I think of it as cheaper than dinner on a Friday night.

Great investment. Moving your list from one of the “free providers” to a paid one down the road is costly and time-consuming.

Because ConvertKit was built by a blogger, for bloggers, the functionality of it is amazing!

So let’s start with that list of niches already! Keep in Mind that many of the SubNiches could become the main Niche all it’s own if the passion for it is present.

The Blog Niche Relationship

You’ll notice a few of the sub-niches have the same suggestions. Yes, gasp, some niches are closely inter-related and you blog about both.

There are only two tips I will recommend when it comes to picking your niche.

  1. After you have picked your Primary Niche, do a brain dump and try to think of as many blog post ideas as possible. You should be able to come up with at least 30-50 in an hour. Now pre-draft 9 (yes, that seems to be the magic number) articles. If you got bored or were struggling to write more than 500 words per article, you may need to choose a different niche.
  2. Once you have established a decent following, you can expand to include one or two other niches. If you try to be the fashion, baking, outdoors, and medical blogger, you will fail. You’ll only attract people briefly. They won’t stick around on your site because most of your content will be irrelevant to them.

So there you have a good list of ideas for your next venture. Making an income online is not a long-shot if you are willing to invest in yourself and put in the work.

Blog Resources

I highly recommend these two resources for new bloggers. The first is for someone who hasn’t started yet or has just used my aff link above to get started with BlueHost and WordPress.

I hope this list inspires you to start your blog today!
